The Riviera & Nations Cup 20th - 25th July 2010

A message from Tournament Director Eric Guedj

Hello all,

It's with great sadness that I had to cancel the event Riviera Cup in Cannes this summer.

Failing to reach enough bookings at the tournament's hotel (in fact, not one single reservation to date...), the commercial conditions would have just been unbearable to my organisation.

So the event is cancelled this year, and information is posted on the site while I write.

Late bookings are BG TD's nightmare, as they cannot plan an event properly in advance, while being blind to the number of participants. I do believe that BG community together could be able to come out with a better system, and keep decent turn-outs, but unfortunately, the past 18 months show a different trend. Global crisis? Poker shift? Last year issues still echoing? In any case, I am not keen to run an event for 30 local players and spend considerable efforts and money to do so.

To sum up, the tireless devotion I've given to BG in the past 6 years and 35 events comes to an end.

I want also to apologize here to any player that had intention to attend the Cannes event, and wished he/she had at least expressed such intention to me via email. As it happened, he/she did not.

Best of luck to my fellow TDs for the events they will run this year, and see you all in MC.

Eric Guedj.

PS: For any potential aggravation due to flights tickets, other hotels bookings, etc, please write to me.

Mike Main would like to add his sympathies to Eric in having to post this message and to all players that might have come to this event. As Bg in London has experienced this year setting up big events is no easy thing to do.

Alternative events around this period that might be suitable for players:
WBF 1st Menton Tournament - 9 - 11 July
Bg in Fulham - Mon 14th July
Monte Carlo World Championships 12 - 18 July
Bg in Camden - Tue 20th July
