Edward Leighton wins Jackpot.

I got back from my travels to help run the World Championships in Monte Carlo on the Monday evening and was back in Camden less than 24 hours later for this Bg in Camden. Not that I needed to have worried; Richard Biddle had done a sterling job in running a Bg in Fulham while I was away. Many thanx Richard. Sean Williams had put litres of beer down my throat at Nice airport in an attempt, not to make me miss Camden, but rather to give Mr Biddle another load of work to do. They're like two kids them two!

Jackpot 1 went to £160, Jackpot 2 to £45 with an Optional Pool of a further £20, 2 Swisses, 1 Round Robin, 4 Mini-Jackpots and a SpeedGammmon Mini-Jackpot were our bill of fare this evening.

A big round of applause was given to our 2nd German member of Bg in London - Tobias Hellwag - who won The Championship Flight Consolation 2 Tournament in Monte Carlo. Fate is a terrible lady; in my report of Bg in Camden earlier this month I drew attention to the fact that Sean and Tobias had played each other that evening and might do so again in Monte Carlo. They did. In Round 1 of the Main. Sean recorded the match and it will feature here on the Bg in London website shortly.

But enough of Sean because he and "The Mrs" were not with us this evening and he's been outshone by his good wife. Zoe Cunningham. She also played in the Championship Flight of the World Champs (instead of staying in the Monte Carlo hospital this year, but that's another story) though fared little better than Sean did in that. The BIG news is that Zoe can now call herself The Ladies World Champion. Yes, Zoe played in a Ladies Tournament! Her principles gone out the window? We'll be tackling her on that matter in a special interview shortly.

I spoke of "fare" a moment ago. The blasted chef at The Canalside Bar pushed off at 8.00pm again. This left some players "sans fare" which is not satisfactory at all. Phone call to the management required.

We had some "Bg in Camden virgins" with us this evening too. Chris Snook-Lumb, Ralf Woelk also from Germany and a DailyGammon player, John Broomfield II (as if 1 was not sufficient!) Philip Jones came out of the woodwork to play again and Mike Wood a friend of Ossie Lundie-Smith. John Hurst put in a rare appearance and Yousef Mahmoud popped in en route back from Monte Carlo to Dublin. A warm welcome to yee all and we hope to see yous again.

Winners this evening were: Edward Leighton, George Kiourtzidis, Yousef Mahmoud, Mourad Wahba, Richard Biddle, Eric McApline, Simon Morecroft, Alan Beckerson and Philip Jones.

Summary:

Another fine evening of backgammon, but the lack of a chef after 8.00pm food was a let down. Grrrr. There's a great Photo Gallery by Ersoy Emin on the Gallery page.
