Our 4th Bg in Fulham evening and player numbers are picking up; 35 came along this evening and the buzz was good because of that.

Swiss 1 was up and running by 6.30, at 7.00pm we were 1 player short for the Jackpot 1 so we held a seat open for a late arrival which was taken by 7.30, Swiss 2 kicked of at 7.20 and by 7.30 we had a further 4 looking for another Swiss so it kicked off as a "Round Robin might become a Swiss." A few late arrivals left scope for a 2nd Jackpot once the first round of Jackpot 12 was played.

The "Round Robin might become a Swiss" built up to 6 players then a 7th, but we never found the 8th so it remained a Round Robin with 21 matches to play - yikes that's a lot for one evening so I made matches 3 pointers. This would have been fine had not so many players decided they wanted to eat (no worries there) and matches took as long as they did (an age in some cases but no worries there either... sort of!) Truth be told players were just as interested in chatting and drinking as playing - no worries there.

Graham Read has been a regular Bg in London player for about 3 or 4 years now. He used to play in £10 Knockouts, then keyed into £10 Swisses when they were created a couple of years ago and has recently been flirting with £25+ Knockouts. With a good number of lesser money wins under his belt over the years, this evening he join the few who have won Jackpot 1 by soundly beating John Broomfield in the final. Bravo Graham. Simon Gasquione likes the Fulham hunting ground and bagged in a clock play final over Martin Barkwill Jackpot 2. A couple of old hands (Simon Morecroft & Monica Beckerson) took Swiss 1 & 2.

By 9.30 the Round Robin was running way behind schedule with no chance of ever finishing by 11.00pm. so I pulled in some reserve players to play for those who were running way behind schedule. Simon became Sarah, Kenroy became Lucy, Eric became Jafar, Simon became Sarah again, Kenroy was Lucy again, Orsin became Kash, Eric was now James, Simon was now Colin, Ali was James and so was Eric! Clearly 7 seats in a Round Round of 3 pointers was too many and the last few matches became 1 pointers as well. The prize fund split was clearly wrong so when all was played Jafar (a Chartered Accountant) applied his skills (thank you) and the prize fund split was re-calculated to give a fair share to the top 3 actual players. Did it all get a little messy? Yes but everybody seemed ok with it so no harm done and I'm sure players will be back for more.

Summary:

7 new members this evening; Donna decided it was time to roll up her sleeves and play, Farzin bought along 3 friends (thank you) and Google put others in touch with us. We hope to see you all again soon.

7 players (likely to include novice doubling cube players who often play slowly compared to experience players) in a Round Robin proved to be too many matches (21) for one evening's play. Therefore future Round Robins will be limited to 6 players (15 matches) with 30 minutes allowed for each match. If we build to 8 players before the 1st 3 matches are played out we will alter the format to a Swiss Tournament.

35 players is an improvement of last month so the future for Bg in Fulhams looks bright. A few more would be good but the buzz is there and this will I'm sure encourage others to come along for our next gig in Fulham on Monday 14th June. Looking forward to it already.
