36 Entries, 7 Tournaments, 26 Players, £719 Prize Fund,
Simon Gasquoine wins Jackpot.

Simon Gasquione

This was a Durell Arms in Fulham gig - out 3rd event there. To my mind it is the best backgammon playing room of all the venues we currently use so I must admit that a turnout of 26 players was less than I was hoping for. But Rome was not built in a day and nor are bg clubs. We'll get there but I'm hoping for a 40+ turnout next time here on Mon 10th May.

At 7.00pm we had 9 players for 8 seats in the £25+ Jackpot. It went to £45 to lose the one extra payer who then moved on the 8 player Swiss. We had a number of players turn up during the evening so with those players and knocked out players we ran another 5 Mini-Jackpots. So all in all a good bg active evening for those that came.

Winners were: Simon Gasquione (Jackpot,) Annette Sutherland (Swiss,) Graham Read, Martin Barkwill, Eric Maillebiau, Andrew Bennet and Glafkos Georgiou (Mini-Jackpots.) The last checker was played at midnight. Woops.

It should be noted that Alan and Monica Beckerson did not win anything this evening!

I didn't mention it during the evening, indeed I even threatened use of them, but I forgot to bring clocks along this evening. End of play time is suppose to be 11.00pm. I try to arrange tournaments so that they all complete by that time but there is little I can do if the 1st Jackpot runs slowly - other than implementing clocks on slow running matches (if I have them with me!)  So let's use this evening as a reminder of the fact that we reserve the right to clock Knockouts if they are running slower than they should do. To be more specific Round 1 should start by 7.15 and end by 8.30 (75 minutes for a 7 pointer is ample.) Semi-Finals should complete by 9.45. Final by 11.00pm. If you are starting Rounds after those time you are liable to be playing on clocks. (Time controls: 15 seconds per move, 2 minutes per point.) Je vous merci.

We had some nice "pop-ins" too. Chris Bray came along to chatter and discuss some positions, George and Diane Sulimirski were in the area so looked in and Zoe Cunningham walked down from Kentish Town - as she is won't to do!

Summary:

Ok, it's a grand venue - as I've said, the best we got. But we gotta use it, to keep it we need more players attending. So expect us to plug it harder at other events and by other than usual means. Looking forward to seeing you there on Mon 10th May. Thanx.
