16th March 2010

42 Entries, 9 Tournaments, 25 Players, £1160 Prize Fund,
John Broomfield wins Jackpot.

A 3rd Tuesday in the month Canalside Bar gig - our new Camden monthly so I wasn't expecting a huge turnout but 25 players is enough to run a decent evening of backgammon for those who came along.

The Big Boys played for £100 a head, 8 Swissers played for a tenner, A Round Robin played for fivers and many came back for another bash some of whom became successful whilst others crashed further. Ca ce backgammon.

John Broomfield came good this evening and won the 1st Jackpot over Jon Barnes, Danny Cohen won the Swiss and Monica Beckerson, Edward Leighton, Ali Shimiri, Michael Kamintzi, Steve Rudell and Kai Fish were our Mini-Jackpot winners while James Fenton just pipped Jo Bagshaw to win the Round Robin.

This was not however a problemless evening; the Canalside Bar were suffering a mains gas leak so were forced to close their kitchen. This was of course quite the correct thing to do under the circumstances but could have been better handled if they had informed me of this so I could have told players at the start of the evening.

Summary:

A nice little evening of backgammon. The Assistant T.D. this evening was the highly experienced Andrew Sarjeant. The next gig I Mike Main have on is the Nordic Open 2010 from 1st - 5th April. On Tuesday 6th April, the date of the next Bg in Camden, I and Richard Biddle will be en route back from Denmark so Andrew Sarjeant, aided by Bg in Camden regular Graham Read, will be the very able hosts for Bg in Camden on Tuesday 6th April. Andrew will be bringing boards along so, as per usual, no need or you all to bring.
