Who's looking for big money play?
Would a £1672 prize fund for winning 3 x 7 pointers interest you?
If so and if you were not there at 7.00pm - well, you missed it.
But don't worry, Nicky Check was very happy to be the Giant of the
Evening.
Oh, you're a small money player more interesting in packing in as
many matches as you can in one evening? Ok then, we had 24 players
play in 3 Swiss Tournaments. Graham Read, David Collins and Oisin
Mac Conamhna won these with 9 other players getting their entry
fee back due to their 2 out of 3 wins.
There was also a £100 entry knockout, 2 x £50ers, a £20er, a £10er
and 3 x £5ers. George Jacobs, Danny Cohen, Jon Barnes, Richard
Biddle, Dave Ablett, Mike Ireland, Monica Beckerson and Jim
Dickson were the winners of that little lot.
I say it regularly; We don't care how much you want to play for,
all we're interesting in is people that want to play backgammon.
Because we get so many players coming along we can suit all
pockets and requirements. 47 players on a wet and rainy February
evening attests to that.
There was, at 5.00pm, a hic-up. Richard and I turned up at The
Lockside Lounge to be informed that they had double booked - they
had a private party booked in as well. I didn't say a lot because
I was just so angry (we have given them business over 64 1st
Tuesdays in the month evenings and I'd spoken to the manager only
two weeks before this.) Instead we went 20 yards across West
Yard to The Canalside Bar that we have used once before. It took
the Manager there about 10 seconds to agree to hosting our
evening and five minutes later he had 3 members of staff
re-arranging tables for our use. Posters were up in The Lockside
Lounge by 6.00pm letting players know where we were. I find it's
always good to have a back-up plan. The Canalside Bar were
fantastic hosts and the venue seems very popular with players.
We'll be launching
Bg in Fulham on Monday. The venue is huge and highly suitable.
For this 1st evening there we will not be charging the usual £5
registration fee so please do come along and check it out. We'll
be there on the 2nd Monday in every month.
Then we'll be back in Camden on Tuesday 16th Feb.
