29th December 2009

49 Entries, 7 Tournaments, 20 Players, £314 Prize Fund,
Andreas Giannopoulos wins Jackpot, Liz Giannopoulos wins The Gang.

The Tuesday evening between Christmas and New Year; would players wish to come out to play or would they be sitting at home watching Day of the Triffids Part 2? Well, it was a wet and rainy night in Georgia London so only a few came out to play. But there were enough to make a go of the evening.

Andreas and Liz Giannopoulos, who recently played in the Winter Doubles Tournament and ended up as Finalists in the Main, had joined us for their first Bg in Camden evening. A special welcome to Liz (formerly Barker) for she has a lot to do with the formation of Bg in London; 10 years ago we went to a Backgammon Party in Stockholm, enjoyed ourselves immensely and upon our return decided to run the first Backgammon Live in London. The rest is, as they say, history.

We kicked off the evening with simple 1 pointer, £1 Jackpots just to limber players up. George K, Neil Robins and Dave Ablett won these. Then at 7.45pm we offered either a £25 Jackpot or The Gang Tournament. 8 players in the Jackpot and 9 in The Gang.

David Collins and David Garofalo were the Captains of the Gang Round 1 and it was the Garofalo Team that won. Meanwhile over in the Jackpot Michael Flesch beat Cecilia Spare (also at her 1st Bg in Camden - welcome,) Mourad beat Alan, Graham R beat George K and Andreas beat Dave Ablett.

In Round 2s Liz & David G beat Sean & Monica in the Gang and Mourad and Andreas became our finalists in the Jackpot while those knocked out of things kicked off a couple of Mini-Jackpots.

Andreas and Liz Giannopoulos, now both in their stride, powered on and became the winners in the Jackpot and Gang - impressive stuff indeed! Bravo. Danny Gallagher and Dave Ablett won the 2 Mini-Jackpots.

Summary:
A cosy evening rather than a massive party but fun was had by those that came so mission achieved.

Next event: Bg in Camden Tue 5th Jan 2010.
