Mochy plays Mourad in the Jackpot Final

£12,845 had been played for over the weekend at the Casinorip.com London Open 2009; would players have any cash or enthusiasm left for a Bg in Camden monthly evening just two days later? 37 players turned up and nigh on 2 grand was played for. Answer to question: Yes.

Jackpot 1 became a £195 entry fee event, Jackpot 2 a £40, 3 was a tenner, there was a £10 Swiss, a free entry Mini-Jackpot and a £10 Mini-Jackpot.

Our very special guest of the evening was Mochy of Japan and many International Backgammon Tournaments. Just to give you an indication as to why he plays so well he can be seen standing over the board after every match he plays reconstructing positions galore and committing them to his terrific memory.

One of our new players this evening looked so fresh faced I asked his age and an I.D. car was produced without any fuss - I presume I'm not the first to ask him this. Stephen Winston, with his Dad by his side, entered Jackpot 2 even though I explained to them that there would be lower entry fee tournaments starting very shortly.

On a glorious evening there was play on the Terrace and inside. The evening ran smoothly though I was called to make one T.D. decision which turned out to be not required after a couple of rolls were made.

Mochy progressed to the Jackpot 1 final in good time to later be joined by Mourad. In a match that was watched by a large number of players it was Mourad who won it. In Jackpot 2 our young man did good - he won it. John B won J 3, Bijan won the Swiss, Somin M rolled Mat Winston then 1st time player player James Hewitt off the board in 3 minutes flat each to win the free play and our last to complete match of the evening it was 1st time Bg in Camden player Engin Ongel (now there's another name from the bg history books) won won Mini-Jackpot 2.

Summary:

Another grand evening of backgammon.
