Considering that The Arsenal were playing Man United in the second leg of the Champions League Semi-Final over in Highbury I didn't expect a huge turnout in Camden this evening. Wrong again Mike. The 1st Swiss Tournament was full and draw done by 7.00pm by which time 14 players had express an interest for playing for at least £25. So we moved to the Camden Auction and it was only when then entry fee reached £150 that just 8 players remained. Fees paid, draw done, off they went to play. The 6 that had dropped out were joined by another 2 so we had a £25 entry 8 player ready to go by 7.15pm. A second Swiss filled up by 7.20pm and off they too went to play. We also had 3 non-doubling cube players with us so they tucked into the corner behind me and played a 3 round Tric Trac Tourno. A few more players would join us during the evening and were slotted in as and where as they arrived making a total of 38 players.

We had a number of first timer Bg in London players with us this evening. After a quick chat with each of them as to their knowledge of the game they were slotted in at their appropriate level. 4 were confident and good enough enough to go for the £25er, 3 played Swiss, 3 played TTT and one late arrival who played a Knockout. Their final placings didn't set the house on fire though Graham Carson (now there's a name established players should know) did win a Mini-Jackpot and Sofyjane on the 3 round TTT by winning a gammon in round 2 and a backgammon in round 3 for which she was awarded a backgammon board to practice at home on.

In the big Tournament Raj stormed though to the final to later be met by Michael Michael who made, or whose dice made, quick work of beating Raj. Tournament 2 was won by Nicky Check, Graham R and Monica B won the Swiss Tournaments, Martin Hoffmann was over in London from Germany for 2 days and walked away as winner of Mini-Jackpot 2 and David Potter was chalked up as winner of Mini-Jackpot 3.

What the above doesn't portray is the buzz that was going around the Lockside Lounge. Even though the kitchen was being refurbished and the fare available this evening was via a barbecue on the terrace players were mingling well and having laughs, good play and lessons were being freely given to those that could use them.
