1st July 2008

34 Entries, 5 Tournaments, 30 Players, £740 Prize Fund,
Raj Jansari wins Jackpot.

A gloriously hot 1st Tuesday in the month and I expected a huge turnout. Except it was apparently too hot so a number of players decided to just chill out at home after a too hot day in London Town. Further at least one player couldn't make it due to disruption on the tube. Things had started at 6.00pm with Mike Snowdon and John McGeough having lessons from Monica and Alan Beckerson. 7 o'clock is Camden Auction time and 8 players signed up for the £50er. Another 4 were up for a £25er so we kicked that off as well hoping that another 4 would turn up shortly but if not then we'd make it a 4 player Mini-Jackpot. Just two players kicked off in the £10er Knockout, another 2 in the Optional £5er Knockout and we just found 8 for the Swiss Tournament.

The £25er did indeed fill up to an 8 player event, the £10 did likewise but the £5er closed as it had started. Graham R was the winner of the Swiss Tournament, Monica won the £10er, Geoff Conn took the £25er, Raj Jansari won the £50er and last but by no means least Roxanna won the £5ers.

Summary:

There's a big difference between having 30 players and about 45 - re-entries are not so swift and combined with the heat of the evening many players (except those in the Swiss Tournament) left after their first loss. Or was it that Chrissi could not be with us this evening? Having spent a week down at Glastonbury doing Night Security Duty (yup, little Chrissi as a Night Watch Woman!) sleep, rest and recuperation was needed by her body though she sent her apologies for absence. Chrissi will be back next month. And it'll be 1 month until the next official Bg in London event because I'm off to Cannes to help PartoucheGammon run the Riviera and Nations Cup 15-21st July to which there are at least 12 Brits attending. Meanwhile there is the 2nd Norwood Charity Backgammon Evening at The Sketch, Conduit Street on Monday 7th July. Then it'll be a Bg in Camden on Tuesday 5th August.
