7th April 2008

40 Entries,5 Tournaments, 24 Players, £600 Prize Fund,
Michael Flesch wins Jackpot.

This evening we were back in our City venue and as per usual there the player number was in mid 20s. Just 5 tournaments this evening; Michael Flesch took T1, Graham R took T3, Edward L took T5 and Brian W had a good night by taking Ts 2 & 4 – nice work if you can get it.

We’re now in gearing up towards Sunday 20th April when we’ll be in The St John’s Wood Bridge Club on Hall Road NW8. Registration is from 3.00 - 3.45 and tournaments will start at 4.00 pm. A buffet supper will be laid on but a decent Sunday lunch might be a good idea before you come. Details here.

The next Bg in Camden will be after that on Tuesday 6th May.

So does this mean there will be in the near future fewer bg events than weekly? Yup, ‘fraid so. A certain number of people are needed to generate sufficient income for me (Mike) to survive from running backgammon on a full time basis. We’ve given it a shot for the last 3 months but we are not there yet. Maybe stepping up from one event per month to one event per week was overly ambitious but I don’t regret giving it a go – at least I’ve learnt some new boarders that I wouldn’t have done otherwise. So let’s take a step to fortnightly events and take it from there. My hope is that this will make for 40-50 players per event. Meanwhile I’ll go and earn the other half of my keep elsewhere. Bg in London is still going, I’m determined in that, but it’ll just not be so frequent and available.
