10th March 2008

32 Entries, 4 Tournaments, 23 Players, £430 Prize Fund,
Raj Jansari wins Jackpot.

Just 23 players this evening which made it feel more like a small club rather than “a loads of action club.” No harm in that and actually it made for quite a pleasant evening of play. 6 players kicked off in the £10er just before 7pm and 7 kicked off in the £25er at 7 pm. Both Tournaments were full by 7.20 and we ran a further 2 £10ers.

Also on the agenda this evening was a 1 pointer, £5 entry, 32 player Biba British Open 2008 Qualifier. As I suspected would be the case it didn’t fill so it will carry on, as planned, at Bg in Camden next week on Tue 18th March where entry will re-open at 6.00pm. 10 of the 32 seats have now been taken with Shino as our first Quarter Finalist.

The food at The King’s Stores is undeniable good. I base this not only on the fact that I polished off half of Chrissi’s meal but more so because just about every player is nowadays having a meal. This is a far higher proportion than at The Lockside Lounge in Camden. Most meals are just £6.95 and in the best traditions of a hearty feed. Players can either eat early before play (6.00 – 7.00 pm) or the kitchen is open until 9.00 pm. hence giving late eating players time to play a match then eat. All in al it gets a 9/10 in the Michael Guide (less bloated than another guide.)

Our T1 final this week was between John Broomfield and Raj Jansari. Raj took a healthy lead from which John tried to pull back but it wasn’t to be and the bell was rung in Raj’s favour.

T2 was contested between 1st time Bg in London player Mike Hanson and regular since November Victor Rad. Mike had flown in from Dubai for the “Win Two, Win a Board” and maybe enter a tournament as well. The “W2,WaB” was combined with his second round match against Monica from which he walked away a double winner and then proceeded to win the final. Not a bad days work – though actually he had already done his shift of work – he’s a pilot based in Dubai.

T3 was made up of those that arrived after 7 o’clock and those that had relinquished their grip on earlier tournaments. The final was between a man that lives no more then 2 miles from The Kings Stores and a man who lives in Littlehampton down on the south coast – both of them DailyGammon addicts. Travel is no problem to Crispin who had been up in Daventry over the weekend at the Biba International Tournament. He didn’t do anything worth writing home about over the weekend but here in London he beat local lad Fintan in the Final.

T4 was our last T of the evening and it having had a long 1st round match that went to DMP the final was played downstairs between Alan Beckerson and Shino. Shino won it and the Beckersons disappeared in super quick time – presumably in order to catch the last train home.
