CHICAGO DOWNTOWN BACKGAMMON CLUB

A new Club for Chicago organised by our old friend, hugely enthusiastic bg promoter, player and Quiz Master Phil Simborg and Carter Mattig. For anybody that does not know Carter you have obviously never been in the same room as him; if you had you'd have a least heard him! Combined Chicago stands little change of not knowing there is a new Bg scene in town.

Report by Phil Simborg

On behalf of myself, Carter, and our families, we want to thank those of you who attended and supported the opening of our Monday Night Backgammon in Greek Town.

In addition to having a full field of 16 in the Masters and 16 in the Open, we had over 50 other people who attended who were interested in learning the game, playing in future tournaments, or observing.

As the word spreads via our exposure on the web, at the nearby universities, and in local papers, and most of all by word of mouth, we expect to see many more new faces in the future.

Again, our goal is to provide a fun place for seasoned tournament players as well as a comfortable and fun place for those new to tournament backgammon to learn the game and eventually become tournament players.

The food and service at the Parthenon were great, the room was spacious and comfortable, and the Free Valet Parking is a wonderful bonus for all.

We are working on a web site to keep you updated to standings and news, and we plan to run some special tournaments and events during the year. We will also be doing many fun things during the Monday night event including special formats in Consolation and fun side events and prizes. Stay tuned!

Last night 20 people won Lottery Tickets for dancing on a 1-point board with 6-6, and there were several winners!

Congratulations to the following winners of our inaugural event:

Masters: 1st: Herb Roman; 2nd Paul Klein, Semis: Rory Pascar & Scott Casty;

Open: 1st Jacob Moreno; 2nd Doug Rogers; Semis: John Jennings & Chris Shenova; 1st. Consolation: Alice Kay; 2nd Consol. Gregg Merriman

Carter and I appreciate any feedback and suggestions and look forward to seeing you all on Monday Nights in Greek Town.
