CAMDEN AUCTIONS

Take about 40 players who want to play different match lengths, play for different sums of money and have all play completed in one evening.

Let market forces apply. We start the evening off by offering entry to an 8 player, £25 entry fee, 7 pointer knockout tournament. We usually have over 8 players interested. So the entry fee is bidded up until only 8 players are still interested. Those that drop out are offered entry to the next tournament. And so on until all are playing for the sort of sum they would like to play for.  

Some players are happy to play for £10, others for 5 or no money. So we also run £10 tournaments and Optional Pool £5 tournament (put no money in, win the tournament and you get no money out because you didn't put in.)

The system works well and we usually have over 40 active players 30 minutes after we start the 1st Auction.

We do not run consolation tournaments. When a player is knocked out s/he is offered entry to another ongoing tournament.

All in all we run about 8 - 10 tournaments per evening.

Players are kept as active as possible - the main reason they come out for the evening.
