A DAVID NAYLOR TAN MAXI BACKGAMMON SET TO BE PLAYED FOR ON
TUESDAY 1st FEBRUARY 2011
WEDNESDAY 9TH FEBRUARY 2011
AT BG IN CAMDEN

You cannot buy sets such as these anymore -
the creator, David Naylor, retired a few years ago now.
His first son, Genesis Naylor, does make similar sets,
but not in this Maxi size.

This set is THE classic David Naylor and is in unblemished condition.

On Wednesday 9th February at Bg in Camden at 7.00pm we will run a Knockout Tournament with the entrants decided by a Camden Auction to determine which 8 players shall play for the set.

An 8 player, 7 point clock play (15 seconds per move, 14 minutes time bank) Knockout Tournament will be played on that evening – the winner will walk away with the Tan Maxi David Naylor set.

The minimum obligatory entry fee will be £175 – thus the set is valued at minimum £1400.

The maximum obligatory entry fee will be £225 – thus the set is valued at maximum £1800.

If there are more than 8 players still interested in playing for the set at £225 there will be an Additional Pool with only those entering the Additional Pool being entitled to play for the set; the bidding to enter the tournament will continue until only 8 players are still interested. The Additional Pool will be 95% return to the winner of the Knockout / David Naylor Set.

All matches will be played on Bg in London Hector-Saxe boards except for the Final which will be played for on the Tan Maxi David Naylor set itself.

The normal £5 evening registration fee per player will apply. All entry and registrations fees will only be payable in cash Sterling before the start of play.

Please click here to express an interest in playing for this Tan Maxi David Naylor set. Names of those interested will be published on the Bg in London website unless players state they would not like their name published.

Please note that all interested players will have to be in-situ at The Lockside Lounge, Camden, London at 7.00pm prompt on Wednesday 9th February and that telephone / en route registrations will not be accepted.

If the assembled players are not willing to raise a minimum of £1400 between themselves the set will be sold on the Bg in London website via a Sale Auction closing at 22.00hours London time on Sunday 16th February 2011. (If this is the case, no tournament will be played for the set, instead on the evening of Wednesday 9th February we'll run tournaments just for cash.)

ABOUT THE SET:

Second hand genuine David Naylor boards are extremely rare because
they are usually held onto for life and handed down as family heirlooms.

This one is a maxi board, a size not made by his son Genesis,
one of the very last made by David.

The dimensions are 3.25 inches by 22.5 by 15.25.

It is in pristine condition, was purchased as a collectors item
and has only been played on the once.

Two Maxi David Naylor sets have come on the market in the last 3 years;
April 2008 - new condition - sold for £1400,
August 2010 - very used condition, no cups, no outer cover - sold for £600.

We very much doubt that such a set as this one
will ever come on the market again.

The set features David's ring style checkers. They are in excellent condition due to David having placed a foam disc in the centre of them to aide them to bond securely.

The Tan board, Black and White checkers combination
has always been the most popular colour scheme of all Naylor boards.

The original David Naylor Doubling Cube is included and is still in mint condition.

The 4 original non-precision dice are also included in the sale.

The two cups are round, lipped and stitched with the same leather.

David Naylor backgammon boards
are very few and far between.

If you hanker to own one,
this example of a Tan Maxi
is the best that you will find.

The outer cover is a distinctive feature of Naylor boards
that protects the sets from the bumps and bruises most boards suffer
when in transit and ensures that the board will last for years to come.

Due to its larger than normal size this set makes for
the perfect chouette board.
